South Park – season 20 episode 6: “Fort Collins” review

This week’s episode was probably the funniest of the season so far – between torturing member berries, Cartman dreaming of vagina-shaped buildings on Mars and trolls being set on fire it might be one of the most bizarre as well.

The story seems to be pointing towards Kyle finding out his father is Skankhunt42 but it also seems to be stalling to work the results of the US election into the storyline – which is not altogether unusual for South Park

Interestingly I was watching some old episodes with my daughter this week and she found them extremely funny, although she was a little confused by some of the jokes – confused in that many of the jokes were just silliness and not pop culture references.

Anyway, I am once again optimistic for the remainder of this season.

Walking Dead season 7 premiere “the day will come that you won’t be” review

Yes, there are spoilers ahead…

By the end of season 6 I was pretty annoyed with the show. They had toyed with us multiple times leading up to a huge cliffhanger, wondering who got the wrong end of Negan’s barbed-wire bat.

I only saw a couple options of how they could make this episode worth it and to my delight, they accomplished it in a way I had not predicted.

Personally I thought Michonne was toast, in the end ***spoilers*** it wasn’t just one character but two, first Abraham, then Glenn.

That was a twist I did not see coming although hindsight it is obvious. Taking Glenn out at this point is very interesting, and what follows could be wild… now I will admit that I deliberately avoid the graphic novel – despite the fact that the show often strays from it – because I don’t want to taint my enjoyment of the show, so I have no idea what they “might” do, but it seems like this could lead to something of a passing of the torch of the group’s leadership from Rick to Maggie. She has come a long way through the course of the show, and like every great leader has had moments where she has doubted herself. Now if she would just do a topless scene we’d be set!

I will admit that about halfway into the show when they had not revealed who had gotten the baby seal treatment I was getting restless. They made us wait all this time and were stretching it out again – but luckily it was only a couple minutes after feeling that, that Abraham met his demise. And Glenjamin’s killing came as a bit of a shock because I thought the killing was done, although I did notice the bat was less bloody than it was at the start of the show. And I will admit that part of me was disappointed that Michonne survived because I wanted so badly to be right.

Now like many of the other fans, I saw Daryl as being responsible for Glenn’s undoing, so I was a bit confused when Maggie got upset about the Saviors taking him away. I really hope they don’t let Daryl off the hook for it; I want to see him remorseful, I want to see Maggie either confront and/or forgive him – I want it to be resolved!

Interesting though, the the bludgeoning was not even what this episode was about. It was about Negan forcing Rick into submission. It was very well done and I found myself feeling Rick’s dilemma as he had to make a dreadful choice. Again in hindsight it seems very obvious that he won’t cut off his son’s arm, and it almost echo’s the Abraham / Issac story, but in that moment I felt genuine threat and powerlessness along with Rick.

The creators have said that this is a reset – a turning point that will define the show for a long time. It raises a lot of interesting questions. We’ve seen Rick’s team forced into a corner before and they’ve always fought their way out of it. I can’t see them willfully serving Negan but he has enough voluntary followers that you would think he seduces one or two regulars over to his side.

Whatever the plan is, I will say that this episode restored my faith in the show after losing it last season.

Nintendo announces “Switch” the new console

The optimist who saw the announcement trailer probably thought they were looking at something revolutionary, but wen Randy saw it he was not so excited – Nintendo is known for being behind the curve when it comes to graphics and a system that claims to be this powerful with require a lot of battery power which Nintendo has also been poor at historically…

Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Timewarp Again – review

When I first heard that there was going to be a made-for-TV version of the cult movie I have loved since I first saw it back in the 80’s I’ll admit to being worried that it would be terrible.

But for the most part I was pleasantly surprised. The remake did a lot more right than it did wrong, but there was one huge problem – by making Frank an actual transsexual they sort of painted themselves into the PC corner of having to refer to Frank as “her” and not “him” which is distracting for all the wrong reasons; and sort of kills a large part of what made the show funny in the first place. Trying to make the Rocky Horror Picture Show politically correct is sort of the antithesis of what it was all about in the begining. It was rebellious, it was outrageous – but this version has stripped all of that away.

That being said, aside from one or two music cue changed I wasn’t crazy about, this was very well executed. The opening number sung by Ivy Levan was fantastic, it was the visual interpretation of reminding us that this would be blending the old with something new.

Ryan McCartan as Brad was the highlight of the cast for me. He nailed the role while adding in a few hillarious nuances of his own. Reeve Carney as Riff Raff was perfectly cast, as was Staz Nair as Rocky, who was great as a child-like monster.

Victoria Justice was amazing in her role as well, in fact I may have liked her more than Suzan Sarandon.

The remaining cast members were all done extremely well also, Adam Lambert and Ben Vereen were brilliant; Annaleigh Ashford as Columbia was another stroke of casting genius. Christina Milian as Magenta was hit and miss,  but her hits were incrediblely funny. It was a treat to see Tim Curry in a small part though I would’ve liked a few more cameos.

As far as the whole idea of putting in the audience – I’m a little torn; on one hand it’s an interesting way to tell a new generation about the traditions in the theatre, but it certainly takes you out of it at times. That said, they paid it off brilliantly in Frank’s last song.

Bottom line is I was pleasantly surprised and certainly recommend it, although I still feel the original film is superior. Hopefully this one gets a new generation interested in seeing it.

South Park “Douche and a Danish” review (Season 20, episode 5)

The new episode of South Park gives us more of what the last few episodes gave us: member berries, Kind Cartman, conspiracy theory, trolls and one or two laughs.

I don’t know how many times this season I’ve wondered if the creators are just mailing it in, but if they actually have lost interest I wish they would at least give us something more. It almost makes me feel like they’re trying to see how long they can get away with dangling people along on the hope that the show will return to form – similar to what the Walking Dead did last season.

There’s not much more to say about this episode. I think I laughed once when Garrison’s tan was running, but other than that I can’t think of any jokes that really hit.

Supergirl f***in’ sucks!

I avoided Supergirl all of last year yet enjoyed the Flash, but since they added the man of steel I decided to give it a try and boy was that a mistake. It’s like it was written by four-year-olds for cats.

While I do admit to hating pretty much everything about the new Superman, from his costume that covers the entire spectrum of bland to trying-too-hard, his character is everything Superman isn’t supposed to be! Clark is no longer a hapless, mild-mannered reporter but a dashing (albeit buck-toothed) dream boat. Superman is no longer a serious man of action but a quip-happy douche.

But that’s not even the problem with this show…

They write people like they are idiots – especially bad guys. And if that isn’t bad enough they even TELL you that they’re stupid. Good way to create a threat level of 0.

Seriously, Metallo sees that his laser is not working to penetrate a car som what does he do? Keeps blasting it obviously.

Luckily I won’t be wasting anymore of my time watching this so I can concentrate on constructive things like sticking my wang in a soda bottle.

Man has sex with pop bottle and loses penis

After what was beginning as a depressing weekend, I read a news article about a 50-year old Honduran guy got his cock stuck in a soda bottle because he was horny and didn’t have anything else nearby with small enough hole for him to pleasure himself with.

Now I have no idea what a “Honduran” is but now you can bet that if you Google it, this guy will bring fame – or rather infamy to his nation.

To be honest I thought this was a hoax at first but apparently according to someone called Dr. Dennis Chirinos – the whole thing is true, and the guy in this picture is what I suspect he looks like:

South Park: “Wieners out” season 20 episode 4 review

Halfway into this episode I was worrried it would be another disappointment – and then came the best moment of the series so far… Kyle’s mom pissing on Gerald! Okay I’m not going to get into why, but it was definitely a redeeming moment of a show which was dragging along up until that point.

The main idea of this episode was Butters leading the boys in going “wieners out” as a form of protesting the protest against them. As usual Souh Park is very good at pointing out the absurdity of our everyday lives. But still it was lacking it’s normal humour. As an example, last season they made fun of grocery stores asking for donations every time you shop – that was far more relatable to me than any of the content this year.

Cartman didn’t show up until partway through the episode with a somewhat funny-while being deadpan about seeing his girlfriend’s vagina. Personally I don’t really care for this new Eric Cartman however… there have been many episodes that try to show he has changed only to make him more devious than ever by the end- it could be a case of them doing the ultimate Cartman bate and switch by doing a season-long set up then reverse – but even if that is the case it is asking a lot for us to sit through it.

The episode fizzled out with another “cliffhanger” which was not really that dramatic, it was simply Gerald meeting other trolls.

I would love to see one episode this season that breaks the current mold and is just flat out funny.

“I’m not guilty of rape – I’m too fat and my dick is too small!”

jacques-rouschop

If only I were joking…

Seriously, this arsehole Jacques Rouschop who stands trial for choke-raping a couple women in the Ottawa slums. his defense: his cock is only two-inches erect and he’s a tub of lard, so he can’t even get it in.

Um. Personally I’d take the charges before admitting that – I mean who wants to be known publicly as being obese?

What confused me is that his lawyer admitted that being a fat pig he didn’t have much luck with the ladies… wouldn’t that sort of count as motive for an accused rapist? I think this guy needs a new lawyer. If it weren’t bad enough he’s being charged of a criminal offence he’s being fat shamed and dick shamed by the guy who is being paid to “protect” him.

It makes me wonder, is he even capable of jacking it with that gut and micro-penis? If not it would make his pent-up frustration somewhat understandable, although again, that’s more motive material. Then again, if I were at the point where I couldn’t yank it in part due to being a big fat pig, I’d probably lay off the cheeseburgers… but what do I know, I’m clearly not as smart as the genius in the picture above.

I usually like to leave you with a funny video, but I don’t know if I have anything perverted… oh wait… Here’s a simple lesson about how to get laid, you’ll never need to resort to rape again!

South Park season 20 why episode 4 was postponed

It took some digging to find out why South Park missed this week after the creators pride themselves on not missing deadlines.

Funny enough it was partly due to yours truly.

To their credit, the creators always try to hone their comedic skills and put out the best show possible and with all the praise season 19 got they had set the bar pretty high for themselves.

So from what I was told, when the reviews for this season (including my own) were mixed, they decided to rethink the direction the show was taking which implied an entire rewrite of the outlines for not just episode 4 but the remaining ones for the entire episode.

If this is true we can expect to see a slight shift in direction next week when it returns.
